2 Affordable Drugstore Blushes

28 Dec

Back in the day, women used to pinch their cheeks to get a natural flush of color.  Remember in Gone With the Wind when Brett shows up unannounced, and Scarlett O’Hara pinches her cheeks to compel a natural glow?

Well… adding color to your cheeks that way you risk breaking the capillaries beneath your skin… so luckily nowadays there’s an easier way.

Check out these blushes from  Physicians Formula and NYX.  Quality AND affordable?  Is it too good to be true?

These are two of my favorite blushes, and the small price tag helps too!

Lets start with Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow and Mood Boosting Blush:

Website description: Ultra-soft and blendable blushing powder features a fresh and vibrant mix of blushing tones infused with a pop of color to create a healthy glow.

My thoughts:  The design is adorable, those hearts are so cute I just couldn’t resist.  The color goes on sheer and has a slight shimmer to it.  Pictured is the color “Natural,” which is a light pink.  The color isn’t super unique, but it’s versatile and could be use on almost any skin tone (it may be a little light for darker skinned beauties).  Since this blush is pretty sheer, it may not be to everyone’s liking.  It has a slight violet scent to it, which I can smell if I actually sniff the pan but the smell is not detectable when wearing on my cheeks.  It has a decent wear time, 5-6 hours.  This blush also claims to be “mood boosting,” which is just downright ridiculous.  It’s a cute idea for marketing, but I cannot say this blush works in place of an antidepressant.

Next up is the NYX Cosmetics powder blush.

Website descriptionOur pressed powder blush delivers sheer, silky color that glides on, blends beautifully and creates a natural glow. The formula is richly-pigmented and lasts for hours.

My thoughts: This is an excellent blush.  This color (Pinched) leans more peach than pink which some shimmer.  It applies beautifully and the color would work with just about every skin tone.  It’s sheer but is advertised as being sheer, and the color is buildable.  Compared to the Happy Booster, it’s a bit more pigmented.  I get about 7 hours wear time with it.  This is probably my favorite blush that’s in my collection.  I think it’s a pretty good dupe for the NARS Orgasm (not as much gold shimmer) with a 3rd of the price tag!

Physicians Formula Happy Booster is available at most drustores and here online.  The price ranges from $6-$12 (for 0.24oz).  NYX Powder Blush in Pinched is available at Ulta or here online.  The price ranges from $5-$10 (for 0.18oz).

Glitter rating for Happy Booster: 3 / 5

Glitter rating for NYX Pinched: 4.5 / 5

What do you think of these?  Do you have a favorite inexpensive blush?  I’d love to hear about it!

Happy Wednesday, have a sparkley day!

I was curious if the brush that comes with the physicians formula happy booster is hard & rough like the ones that come with the multi-colored highlighter powder palette because I really need a good blush & was thinking about getting that one since it’s cheaper but not too cheap

It appears to be the same brush in a different color. Unfortunately, the brush in the Happy Booster is also a dud, I use my own to apply.

I have been wanting to try the Nyx blushes! However, every single time I go to Ulta, they are all out. I’ll buy some once they decide to stock up again. Any other shades you recommend?
