Get Exited for Illamasqua Blush!

11 Dec

I was on Florida during the Sephora VIB sale this year, but that did not deter me from taking advantage of the 20% discount.  I found the nearest Sephora and got to work!

I had a list of things that I wanted to get… a few holiday palettes, NARS lipstick, some stuff from Tarte… but then, something stopped me right in my tracks… Illamasqua.

What’s the big deal?  Check it out!

The reason why I got so excited is because they don’t sell this brand where I live so I’d never seen it in person.  I immediately got to work, swatching everything I could in the store.  It was all so pretty!  The eyeshadows, the blushes, the pigments… all so fabulous!  Unfortunately, I was on a budget (aren’t we all?) so I carefully picked a few items and went on my way.

One of the coveted items I got was their powder blush, I picked it up in the shade Excite.

It’s described as a “vibrant coral.”

My thoughts:  The first time I applied it, I used my MAC 168 and I looked like I smeared red paint of my face.  The MAC 168 does a beautiful job applying my NARS Orgasm and Tarte blushes, but it’s just a bit too dense for this blush.  It was a freighting image, I’ll spare you the details.

After that I was sure about one thing, this blush is PIGMENTED.  It is not for the faint hearted.

After that failure, I tried using it with a different brush.  This time I used my Bobbi Brown blush brush.  Ah, better.  This brush is a bit fluffier you don’t pick up as much product at once.  I applied 3 very thin layers until I achieved the color I wanted.

Now the remarkable thing about this blush is not only it’s pigmentation, but how long it lasts!  I get a full.. wait for it… 12 hours of wear time.  Very impressive.

Overall:  I’m very happy with the blush, however it’s not one I reach for when I’m in a hurry in the morning (which is usually the case).  Just being because you do actually have to take your time to apply it.  That’s the only part where Excite loses points with me is it’s tricky application.  However, it’s so pigmented that I’m betting the pan will last a long time, and the wear time is excellent.  I’d be curious to try some other colors to see how they compare.

Glitter rating 4 / 5

This Illamasqua blush is $24.00 for 0.14oz.  You can purchase it on their website or at Sephora.
